Deep breathing stimulates the lymphatic system, which is essential for natural detoxification. If you do not breathe deeply, or move regularly, the lymph fluid does not flow well, which can lead to health concerns, including weight gain, high blood pressure, fatigue and inflammation.
The expansion and contraction of the diaphragm stimulates your lymphatic system, massages your internal organs, and helps the body release harmful toxins. This leaves more room in the cells for an optimal exchange of oxygen.
Deep breathing also helps fight stress.
The following exercise is very simple, and is something you can do anywhere at any time - standing in line at the grocery store, taking a shower, sitting at your desk, doing the washing up, driving. When in the car, it is a good idea to form the habit of conscious breathing whenever you are stopped at traffic lights, and it is a great way to avoid road rage - if someone cuts you up, just breathe!
Simple breathing technique.
Sit in a comfortable position and relax your shoulders. Do all the breathing exercise through your nose.
1. Start with a full exhalation. Empty your lungs completely
2. Breathe in slowly to a count of 5, expanding your belly
3. Hold for a count of 2
4. Slowly release your breath to a count of 10, tensing your abdominal muscles, and drawing in your diaphragm to help your lungs deflate
5. Expand your belly as you breathe in again to a count of 5
Try to focus on your breathing, and repeat this exercise at least 10 times or as often as you feel comfortable with.
Incorporate good breathing techniques into your exercise routine, breathing from the abdomen rather than from the upper body.
Following a detox maintenance lifestyle includes eating a healthy diet, and taking time for deep breathing and exercise. If you are trying to lose weight, diet alone will not do the trick. Try to incorporate more exercise into your daily routine, and make sure you breathe consciously as many times a day as you can.
